The Cocker Spaniel is a beautiful dog breed by all definitions. This dog is absolute eye candy and its cheerful disposition only endears it further. Dog parents who have cocker spaniels among their flock claim that going home to its cute face and soft barks highlight their day. This breed is an excellent companion which finds happiness in giving happiness to all. Cocker spaniels are an absolute treat to the household and on the plus size, they could fit into your purse. Cocker Spaniels were originally bred as hunting dogs in the United Kingdom, with the term “cocker” deriving from their use to hunt the Eurasian woodcock. When Cocker Spaniels were brought to the United States, they were bred to a different standard, which enabled them to specialize in hunting the American woodcock. This breed has remained a very well-liked and sought-after dog for generations.
This breed is a very loyal and focused breed that enjoys the attention if her family. They have social and curious personalities yet are not known to be overly active or hyper. They do well with other pets in the family when introduced at a young age. With warm demeanors, they are easy to approach and bond with. They also are known to train easily and enjoy learning new tricks.
Cocker Spaniels are not high maintenance dogs. They are not considered to be heavy shedders and generally do well with a daily brushing of their coat. Bathing this breed every four to five weeks will help keep her coat shiny, healthy and clean. Routine nail clipping should also be incorporated into this breed’s care routine. This will also help this pup feel his and look her best.
Cocker Spaniels are semi active dogs and do need ample amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many Cocker Spaniel owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.
